Youth Classes at Friendly Stitches

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, the world and life as we knew it came to an abrupt halt. Small businesses shut their doors, daily routines were drastically altered, and people embraced working virtually instead of going to the office. Not to mention that millions of people around the world were becoming violently and radically ill. It was a scary and uncertain time.

Now, nearly two years later, it seems that the world is slowly starting to open back up. Children are returning to schools in person with their classmates, previously postponed or canceled events are being rescheduled, and people’s offices are no longer on their living room couches.

That sense of normalcy is even returning to Friendly Stitches! While all classes halted at the height of the pandemic, sewing classes for all ages are happening once again. And the timing couldn’t be better. As winter is approaching, many of us will be looking for creative outlets to stay active and entertained while the weather outside becomes frightful. Doesn’t learning a new hobby sound so much better than watching another show on Netflix? Doesn’t discovering a new passion in life sound like an exciting way to carry you through winter and beyond?

While everyone can be an expert sewer, let’s focus for a minute on one particular age group. If you know a young person who would benefit from a sewing class, here are a few ways young people fall in love with the art of sewing at Friendly Stitches!

Schedule Individual Instruction

When someone purchases a new sewing machine from Friendly Stitches (hint: the holidays are just around the corner), we offer free one-on-one machine classes to teach sewers young and old how to use the machine. Depending on the machine, these sessions can last anywhere from one to six hours.

Already have a sewing machine? We can still help you! If you already own a sewing machine that your young sewer will be using, we at Friendly Stitches will offer one-on-one owners classes for a fee. These classes, taught by our friendly and expert instructors, will allow them to learn the operation of their machines while working on some fun, creative projects!

Come to a Group Class

Taught by either the Friendly Stitches team or outside instructors, students who participate in a group sewing class can purchase a pattern and their materials! They will cut their fabric out before the class begins and use their machine as a teacher walks them through the construction of a chosen project. The best part? Every student goes home with a beautiful, completed project. Need a purse for a movie night out with friends? You can make our popular Ruffled Rose bag! Looking for a bag to store your makeup? Consider making a Little Poppins Bag, a zippered tote that comes in two unique sizes! Group sewing classes for youths can take eight students, and students must wear masks during class.
